Hopelessly devoted to Stand Up

02 Mar Hopelessly devoted to Stand Up

Stand Up is having another awesome youth conference in 2016 to inspire and activate young unionists. TEU’s Heather Warren gives us an update.

Valentine’s Day, a day of love, a day of chocolate and flowers. A day you spend with those you love doing things you love. Which made it a great day for some Stand Up Committee members to get together and plan our 2016 Conference. Let’s face it nothing says love like spending time with likeminded people planning a conference for young working people in union. So what have we got planned so far? This year the Stand Up Conference will be held in Auckland in early September. A change in venue will hopefully see us getting bigger and better. The theme for this conference is “Solidarity for the Future: Union activism is social activism”. We are looking to explore how the actions we take as the union movement not only impact on working people but also help improve society. With that in mind we have thought about those in New Zealand who have made headlines for their activism and hope to include a panel discussion where these people speak to you about their activist journey. This will hopefully inspire you to think about what your journey is and how to grow as an activist. We’ll update you on our speakers as we track through the planning.

We are also keen to hear from you about what the future for young working people should look like and as always planning a great conference dinner and entertainment. So get pumped about how awesome it is going to be (I’m not even overselling it) and keep an eye on our updates as more and more falls (is organised with extreme precision) into place.
